As the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic around the world and in Puerto Rico continues to escalate and evolve, Fundación Hospital Pediátrico’s (FHP) unique position of providing support for some of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean’s most vulnerable — children and adolescents — has never been more critical. Fundación Hospital Pediátrico is working tirelessly to continue to support the Hospital Pediátrico Universitario, Dr. Antonio Ortiz Medical Center’s ability to provide exceptional care to patients and their families who will rely on the hospital for essential services in the weeks and months ahead, and safeguarding the health and safety of its frontline medical staff who are working around the clock to keep patients and families safe. We are rising to the challenge now, but we know there is still so much more that needs to be done.

To support the Extraordinary Needs Fund COVID-19 you can go to:

Being a 501 (c)(3) non-profit entity, your contribution may be deductible from your Corporation Income Tax Return for the corresponding period.

As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to climb, Fundación Hospital Pediátrico is asking for financial support in four (4) areas that will aid in FHP’s ongoing efforts to protect children, families and staff during and after the pandemic.

The Extraordinary Needs Fund

COVID-19 will support:

  • Obtaining critically needed personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, masks, face shields, and disposable gowns, to protect medical staff while they continue to provide first-rate care for patients and their families.

  • Purchasing medications to help treat pre-existing conditions, like asthma. Children with moderate to severe asthma and other immune disorders may be at higher risk of getting very sick from COVID-19. The virus can affect the respiratory tract (nose, throat, lungs), cause an asthma attack, and lead to pneumonia and acute respiratory disease. Having supplies on hand helps frontline medical staff better protect their patients.

  • Meeting basic needs of low-income families of patients who will suffer economically due to the pandemic and need essentials such as food vouchers, diapers, formula, , wipes, pajamas, and medical equipment. It will also address the needs of frontline medical staff who are working tirelessly and everyday to provide exceptional care to children and their families.

  • Developing and implementing a COVID-19 safety campaign called #quédateencasa that educates the public on how to protect themselves and their families, what to do if they are sick, how to limit the spread of COVID-19, and how to best support the mental and emotional health of children during this uncertain time.

Please join Fundación Hospital Pediátrico in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and make a contribution to the COVID-19 Extraordinary Needs Fund. Fundación Hospital Pediatrico’s singular goal is to help Hospital Pediátrico Universitario, protect and save lives in the face of this pandemic. Together, we can play an important role in addressing this emergency in service to our patients, our community, and our mission of providing excellent health care to children without exception, today and always.
